Keep My Heart Safe

It’s a fragile thing
That beats inside
It’s cage

And when you are near
When you kiss
My lips
Or trace your fingertips
Over my skin

When you brush my hair
From my eyes
Or run your finger over the
Tip of my nose
And down my lips

It beats faster
Stronger
As though it is pounding
It’s fists upon the cage
Demanding to be freed

Yelling your name
Screaming
With passion

But all that is heard
Is a wild thumping inside
My chest

You can not hear the screams
You can not hear the calling
Of your name
But it is there

If you listen closely
You will hear
My heart

It beats for you
